The erstwhile ancient town ‘Dhenu Gram’ which meant ‘The Village of Cows’, is now called Dahanu.
It is a coastal town and a municipal council in the Palghar District of Maharashtra in Konkan Division. It is a major commercial and Industrial town in Palghar district, famous for its Chickoo production.
Dahanu alone produces 35% of Maharashtra’s Chickoo Production. Dahanu boasts of a power plant that supplies electricity to Mumbai among other products like coconuts, roses and palm products.
Though well connected with all the modern facilities and technologies, Dahanu also lends a very capable hand in nurturing some tribal cultures and arts.
Dahanu being a coastal town so near to Mumbai, it has not been explored so much. There is no shortage of beautiful beaches to visit; Parnaka Beaches, Agar Beach, Chikhale Beach are just to name a few.

About 110 kms from Mumbai, Dahanu is located 65 km north of Virar on the Western Railway line of Mumbai Suburban Railway.
By Railways: Most common and effective way to get here is by local train or express shuttle, which halt at Dahanu station, from the station it 8-10 minutes to Dahanu Beach.
By Road: By road, it takes about 2 hours and 40 minutes and the distance is 142 kms. Though Railways is a good option to reach Dahanu, roads will give you the exceptional scenery of farms and fields throughout your journey.
